We are delighted to announce that the University of Sharjah has become the latest academic institution to sponsor the Dewan Award for Architecture, which is held in association with the Tamayouz Excellence Award. Thanks to the university’s support, students from the Department of Architectural Engineering can participate in this year’s competition, as well as other awards under the Tamayouz umbrella.

“We are very pleased and honored to be part of the Tamayouz Excellence Award,” said Emad S. N. Mushtaha, Chair of the Department of Architectural Engineering. “Such a platform will provide new opportunities for our architectural engineering students to excel and strengthen their visibility worldwide and in the region. It will boost their skills and guide them to a brighter future. Being part of such regional and international platforms is always great as it allows us to learn from others and enhance architectural design in various contexts.”

“We are delighted to welcome the University of Sharjah as an academic sponsor of the Dewan Award for Architecture and for the students to submit their designs for this year’s competition,” said Mohamed Al Assam, founder and executive chairman of Dewan Architects + Engineers and the Dewan Award for Architecture. “Ever since establishing the award, our aim has been to inspire young and future architects to be bold and creative in their approach to their work, and to think of architecture as a way to help tackle challenges we face in society and enhance the lives of people."

The 2023 Dewan Award for Architecture is now open for entries. This year, participants should submit their ideas on how to transform Dakeer Island, a rundown settlement in Iraq’s southern city of Basra, into a vibrant waterfront development.
